Formerly a fruit and vegetable market, Covent Garden has become a popular area with tourists and visitors thanks to its trendy cafes, restaurants, shops, fashionable boutiques and street performers. Located in the heart of West End, this buzzing quarter is moments from Leicester Square which makes it an ideal location for a night out, shopping spree or a Sunday brunch in the market area.
The central Italian style piazza boasts Covent Garden Market and is visited by some 30 million tourists each year, attracted to the market’s extraordinary foods, fruit and vegetable as well as street art and a great atmosphere.
Seven Dials and Neal’s Yard are the centres of independent shops and boutiques adding to the area’s charm and unique image.
The Royal Opera House and London Transport Museum are some of the most elegant buildings in the area, well known for their architectural features.

History
Dating back to Roman times, much of Covent Garden was originally used as a walled garden that belonged to the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of St. Peter, Westminster. The area was developed into today’s market in 1970s.
